Nobody cares if you're not a good dancer. Just get up and dance. The same holds true for racing. Whether first or last, we all cross that same finish line. Just get out there and run.

Race Volunteering- Not For The Faint Of Heart

I thought it would be such a good idea to volunteer for the Georgia Publix Marathon/Half Marathon, and not just volunteer but sign up as the captain for one of the hydration stations on the marathon course. If you're running the full, we'll be at mile 15, hydration station #10, and don't forget to vote for our station, if we win we'll win $1000 for our charity of choice. I had to attend a training session for the team captains Thursday night, and I was a little overwhelmed with the amount of information. I had NO idea of the logistics of a race the size of this one, including those with regards to organizing volunteers. I kept wondering what exactly I had gotten myself into because it seems like this isn't for the faint of heart. The papers they gave me were COVERED in notes, I hope I don't mess it all up. After we got the run down, I started to get excited about the opportunity to help and more importantly to win the prize for the hydration station.

Next Sunday, 32 of us will be getting covered in red powerade and cleaning up cups on the marathon course. Shoot me an email if you want the address to come out and cheer and help our station be memorable. runchunky@gmail.com

Yup, That Just Happened

I had my weigh in yesterday and I was down 4.6 pounds.... yup, I was so friggin' proud of myself. I guess that journalling and tracking activity work....it's like magic. These are things I know to do, but I need the accountability of Weight Watchers. Plus, I just need a definitive plan to make things happen. Check out the quote-y thing I ran across the other day...

Just as an aside, is anyone else overwhelmed with the amount of quote-y pictures out there right now?At first it was very funny/motivational/etc., now I feel like I am being bombarded by them all the time. Plus, did you see what I did...I bombarded you with one too. What is this world coming to?!

I ran yesterday, but I had a hard time holding the pace the coach had on the plan and my ankle was KILLING ME. Stupid ankle is the same one that gives me trouble on and off, but I think it means that it's time to make a trip over to Big Peach for a new pair of shoes.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I am kick butt at school...well, mostly. I am killing my Math and Theatre Appreciation classes, I'm doing fairly well in Survey of World History to 1500, and my Astronomy classes but Astronomy and I are not always bff. If I keep it up, I might even land myself on the Dean's list which would be AWESOME! Also, it would keep in line with Operation Be More Awesome, because OBMA not only encompasses running and weight loss but being generally more awesome at life.

Change Of Plans And It's A Good One

Alright, so I posted here about getting a lap band in March but since I totaled my car, it's just not in the cards. The thing is that it has led me to Weight Watchers, I've done it before with a lot of success, but quit like I have with so many things in my life. This time, I am on a mission to lose the weight that I have regained and finally get to my goal weight. The new program is honestly made to help you change your lifestyle but it still gives you the tools to live your life and not miss out on the things that you love. My leader is a runner from my Moms Run This Town group, so she gets the running stuff along with all the awesome WW knowledge.

I started last Monday and had my first weigh in yesterday, it wasn't a loss but I am not upset. I was out of town and I am still learning the new program. Then there was the whole, River Street Sweets pralines that were impossible for me to pass up...oh just thinking about them makes me happy (I have some serious issues lol). I'll let you all know how weigh in goes on Monday, I know it's going to be a great weigh in.

Oh yeah, I'm running again too! Ok, so I am waddling/run/walking. I am working on my endurance again and my speed, because I love Galloway but I want to be able to just run without the walk breaks again.

Operation Be More Awesome 2013 is FULL SWING!

Winter Runnerland 5K Recap

B and I did the Moms Run This Town Winter Runnerland 5K on Saturday. Our local chapter went all out on Saturday for the race, it doesn't hurt that the founder of MRTT is also a member of our chapter. Anyways, B and I were supposed to be up bright and early to meet everyone except, we both overslept and got to the lake as everyone was taking off. I went out the night before and I stayed out late, I'm just not used to that sort of thing anymore....I'm getting old. Anyways, we got out of the truck and managed to catch a mom and son walking the race, so we made some new friends. Look at us, we were a HOT MESS, B is barely awake in the picture.

B and the other mom's son ran ahead but the little guy just didn't have it in him to run the whole way. B would stop and check on him, circle back to us  and to the little guy if he fell behind. She covered more than the 5k distance for sure, and she was beyond proud because she ran the majority of the distance. She even had an super cute finish...

I enjoyed being out and making a new friend, the medal at the end was just a nice added bonus. The chapter leader and the MRTT founder really took care of all the racers out there, much better than any other race I've done.

Sing "Soft Kitty" To Me

So, it's no secret that I am a dork and a nerd. I had fought watching Big Bang Theory for a LONG time but I finally caved last year which brings me to the title of the blog.

I am sitting here, a week and a day after my stupid car accident. I totaled my car last week, and what's worse, I'll be getting no help from the insurance...long story for another day. The airbag deployed in the accident and I am still a bit sore from the accident, and my chest is still bruised. Bella is still a little sore from the accident too. To add to the fun, I have messed up my wrist and I am stuck in a splint for the next month and I'll have to go to physical therapy for it. Oh and I need to buy a new car.... glad to be getting a new car but definitely don't want to spend the money on a car right now. In summary, I am just a little bit sad and I have had a hard time shaking it off.

I've had peeks at cool and awesome things. I got 100% on my first theatre appreciation assignment, and my professor posted it as an example of what he was looking for from the assignment. I won tickets to go watch The Producers tomorrow night, which is exciting because I LOVE going to the the theatre, especially The Fox in Atlanta. Plus, it's a night out with some friends of mine, and that doesn't happen often.

Due to the accident, my first run of the new running plan was delayed. I walked on Monday then today I walked with spurts of running. The running hurt my knee's that is still hurting from the Hot Chocolate 15k (report to come) and the accident where I jarred it, and running hurt my bum as well. On a good note, I did decide that it's time to work on strengthening the lower body and my core since my wrist is out of commission right now (typing this has been fun one handed). This was another bright spot in my day which I needed.

Now, I have taken the happy pills the doctor gave me and I need someone to sing me "Soft Kitty" to make it all better. Injured and drugged is a kind of sick....

Back To School

On Monday, I went back to school. OY VEY! It has been a long time since I was last in school and since the school I'm at right now will not accept any of the credits I received back in Canada, so I am really starting fresh.

So, Monday I was a ball of NERVES, so I hit the gym for a run and weight training. My run was alright, I tried pushing myself a little. More than anything, I just needed to work out a little bit of the nerves and stress I was feeling about school. I even hit the weights, it had been a LONG time since I had touched the weights and I knew that I would feel it on Tuesday and did I ever but it was a good hurt. My return to the gym on a regular basis in a non Zumba teaching capacity has been long over due, and it feels great to be back. I even went back for another run and more weights and core work on Wednesday... bad ass, I know. Tuesday and Thursday, I just had a date with the elliptical because I teach Zumba on Tuesday and Thursday nights and I didn't want to do anything crazy.

Guess what I am going to do on Sunday.... the Hot Chocolate 15K. I'm excited about the race because there's chocolate at the end, and you know the whole running thing is pretty cool too. Did I mention the chocolate? I hope the race doesn't disappoint because the expo/packet pickup today was kind of disappointing. I'm optimistic that it'll be a good race and a great time will be had by all.

BAM! Welcome 2013!

It's 2013, what could be more exciting than that! It's a new year, and a chance for a fresh start. Already I've started out the year with being mindful of what I've been putting in my body and working out. Back on a running plan, back to teaching my Zumba classes and what a Zumba class I had last night. Oh yeah, did I mention that I start school on Monday?! Yes, I'm going back to school and because nothing from my previous Canadian university experience will transfer, I have to start fresh. It's going to require some hard work and sacrifice but I have to get my degree and have a career.

2013 is going to be the year we lay the groundwork for an EPIC 2014, how's that for planning ahead.

In 2013 I plan to....
- have my lap band surgery
- run at least 3 half marathons
- participate in at least one sprint triathlon
- get faster!
- generally be a bad ass

Because in 2014 I plan to
- finally finish a marathon
- run a sub 30 5k
- participate in an Olympic distance triathlon
- be even more bad ass!

Let's go! Ready to make this year my b*tch!
